123Carbon has been included in the Thetius 150 list of the maritime industry’s most influential organisations following the report’s release in September 2024.

The Thetius 150 report, compiled in association with Bureau Veritas, profiles a list of organisations considered to be the most innovative in the industry today, and be continually striving for innovation that will support the maritime sector. The list is split into four sections, which focus on start-ups and scaleups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), corporates, as well as government and non-profit bodies that are effecting industrywide change through the development of innovative technologies.

The rigorous selection process involves an assessment of over 4,000 organisations captured in the Thetius IQ database, from which 1,200 are identified as having made a significant impact over the last 12 months. This list is then narrowed down to 150 organisations deemed to have made the most significant impact on the industry.

As part of 123Carbon’s profile, Thetius highlighted notable partnership projects with industry leaders such as Bunker Holding, which launched their insetting capability with 123Carbon to allow the cost of delivering lower-carbon alternative fuels to be shared across the value chain. As well as, other notable partnerships including Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL) pilot project, which represented the first Asia Pacific (APAC) based carrier to issue carbon insets on the 123Carbon platform.

Speaking in response to the release of the Thetius 150 list, Jeroen van Heiningen, Managing Director of 123Carbon, said: “We are pleased to be included in this year’s Thetius 150 list, among some of the most innovative and forward-thinking companies in the industry. As the maritime sector continues its decarbonisation transition, the role of alternative low-carbon fuels in supporting the industry’s efforts to decarbonise cannot be overstated.

“However, the challenge of achieving market viability for low-carbon fuels is not unique to the maritime industry, it will take cooperations and collaboration from across the global supply chain to turn this ambition into reality. Carbon insetting methodologies, such as 123Carbon, represent a viable method of addressing the current market fragmentation of the alternative fuels supply chain by uniting energy suppliers and transport companies to issue, manage, and sell verified carbon insets to cargo owners and freight forwarders, allowing them to share the cost of low-carbon initiatives throughout the supply chain.”
